DUSTS, FUMES AND MISTS IN THE WORKPLACE:
RISKS AND PREVENTION
11-13 June 2001 Toulouse (France)
Objectives
The ISSA sections for Chemistry and Research are jointly organizing an
international symposium on the risks linked to particulate pollutants dispersed in
workplace air in the form of dusts, fumes or mists and on prevention. The symposium will
cover recent work on the physiopathological mechanisms associated with the substances involved
and their metabolites, on the assessment of exposure in the various sectors concerned, and on
the whole range of preventive measures. Particular attention will be paid to processes involving
new materials (including those made or used in the form of ultrafine particles). Fibrous
materials will not fall within the scope of the symposium. In contrast, biological aerosols
(airborne bacteria, moulds, and viruses) will be included.
Target audience
The symposium is intended for a wide range of people: occupational physicians, people in
charge of occupational health and safety, those responsible for implementing legislation or for
giving advice to public or private companies on occupational risk prevention, representatives
of the social partners (managers, employees) and social security organizations, and finally
specialists in metrology of aerosols, toxicology, and epidemiology.
The symposium will deal with four main themes
Biological effects of inhaled particles
Assessment of exposure to particulate pollutants
Reduction of exposure to particulate pollutants in the workplace
Ultrafine particles and specific dusts
Date and venue of the symposium
The symposium will take place from 11 to 13 June 2001 at the Centre de Congrés
Pierre Baudis in Toulouse.
